Waitākere Ranges Local Board Feedback
Waitākere Ranges Local Board Plan 2026 Feedback
Feedback has closed now but I managed to get something submitted about the total lack of support for cycling in the local board's 2026 plan.
From searching the PDF Waitakere Ranges Local Board Plan 2026 for the word 'cycle' it appears once, as cycleways, and 'cycling' not at all...

The three page "Transport" section does not mention cycling:

So I fed back:
"Disgusting that there is little to nothing for cycling in the transport section which still seems to be all about making it better for motor vehicles"
For the Transport Section:
"Not enough emphasis on multi-mode transport options. As a multi-decade Glen Eden resident I have seen no local improvements, beyond maintenance, for shared paths and bike paths since the formation of Auckland Council.
What little was done, and it was little, as Covid 'pop-ups' was then removed to favour public storage of private goods (car parking) over people's safety."
That path, the red arrow just 350 metres from A–B, connected the Upper Waikumete Cycleway (purple arrow, built by Waitakere City Council before Auckland Council existed) to the retail village and train station.

The yellow catchment area has one large intermediate school (1) and three primary schools (2–4) and all the houses along the pop-up path have driveways and off-street parking...

And I added this:
17 October 2022 | After the bike path was removed | · Captain Scott Rd AT Bus Squeeze
I thought about the Local Board who decided to remove the short cycle lane in Captain Scott Road tonight. I can't write what I thought about them...

Since Auckland Council formed Glen Eden has had:
- No new major off‑road cycleways
- No protected on‑road cycle lanes
- No new long-distance commuter routes or connections to other existing routes
- Nothing beyond some AT provided bike parks
In response to a section on the Glenview Road Railway Level Crossing:
In relation to the railway, close the Glen Eden Level Crossing

PS: I did lodge a complaint with AT regarding the driving, and their response was PR fluff about 'caring', 'We will have a word', and a refusal to communicate any more about outcomes due to 'privacy'.
I was extremely concerned to hear of this. Please accept my sincere apologies for your experience – this is not the level of conduct we expect from our drivers.
I have sent this through to our bus operations team for investigation. They will have a look in to this, speak with the driver and take the action they deem to be appropriate. While I cannot disclose the details of the investigation due to Privacy Act, please be assured that we do not take feedback like this lightly and will take the necessary steps to ensure such a situation does not occur again.
