Auckland Central Rail link, a game changer?
Adding the CRL to Auckland Rapid Transit (ART) improves my city journeys

Seeing the new The City Rail Link (CRL) took me back to the early 1980s when I first saw my Unitec technical drawing/illustration tutor Gifford Jackson's 1974 drawings of the near identical—scrapped by a National government—Auckland Rapid Transit scheme (see link below for more about that).

To think, CRL could have been close to celebrating 50 years of operation in 2026, instead of opening day...
City commute time saved
One reason I got a folding bike is now history. The Western rail line diversion to Newmarket (green path below) added 17-20 minutes to the train leg of a city commute. Getting off at Grafton and biking (the blue path below) replaced that with a short—mostly downhill, mostly bike lane—bike ride to the office.

Te Waihorotiu (Aotea/Wellesley & Victoria St) Station will simplify this commute
The new direct to city link tunnel and Te Waihorotiu (Aotea/Wellesley & Victoria St) Station (pink) bypasses all that, makes the city more walkable and the office an even shorter—still mostly downhill and all bike lane—bike ride away.
