Come together | Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense
Awesome evening, made special
'Come Together' brought the full Stop Making Sense album/soundtrack, followed by a set including a TomTom Club track and Talking Heads tracks from later albums, to the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre stage.
Although the original was a long time ago, seeing the IMAX Stop Making Sense anniversary screening last year and David Byrne live more recently, gave a good comparison.
The local version was amazing, matching the quality of the performance but still allowing each local artist (the leads were shared around) to bring some of themselves to such familiar tracks.
Then add staging and lighting similar to the movie, including the opening and 'band build', and it was a fabulous tribute. An amazing 'City of Dreams' (from True Stories) and 'Nothing But Flowers' (from Naked) were my favourites from the second set.
It was an awesome evening made even more special by a dedication to, and unexpectedly catching up with, Chris Kemp.
