Kiwis love cars and have more, per head, than anyone in the world but here’s a hint why:
Parnell is 9.3km from where I work yet look at this extract from a message posted on the intranet today:
“…I live in Parnell and am buying a car but don’t have one yet. Currently commuting by bus but it takes 1.5 hours. If anyone can give me a lift….”
1.5 hours for less than 10km. Unless you work in the city, most don’t, public transport just doesn’t work in Auckland. My own 30 – 40 minute commute would be 1.5 – 2 hours by bus, at best, which is why I drive to work. Yes I’m part of the traffic problem but look at the alternative.
