Technology reinforced sedentary lifestyle guilt
It’s winter and, apart from doggy walks & very occasional bike rides, I tend to hibernate a bit. It’s a chance to catch up with the MySky recording back log (like all the Dr Whos since David Tennant left) and other inside stuff.
However our amazingly technological world reminds me what others are up to and makes me think I should be doing more. From my inbox today…
- Via Twitter I discover AKSitP friends who are “sailing from Mexico to New Zealand on their Lagoon 380 catamaran.” are now “Anchor down Papeete, Tahiti” (green arrow). @toastfloats are using a combination of marine SSB radio & local phone/web data (when in range) to report locations & status to their Twitter followers. It’s been cool to follow their progress across the Pacific with the help of Twitter & web maps.

- Via email I know Bas & Belinda (who I could not keep up with on the last Adventure South trip!), currently cycling in South America, are now about 800km from Puno, Lake Titicaca, where they started. This position was reported via satellite using a Spot GPS location reporting device. I know where they are & all is ok without them needing to do anything more than press a button. Isn’t technology wonderful!

Time for lunch!
