Road Safety or...?

I pass three schools on the way to work whatever route I choose. Often these are monitored by Traffic Police which is great as speeding & dangerous driving near schools is stupid.

Having said that people do stupid things and deserve all they get when caught. It constantly amazes me that amongst the dumbest things I see is Parents (I presume) double parking, stopping & reversing into parks against heavy traffic flow, and attempting U turn’s, etc.

All this on busy roads close to the school entrances and crossings, seemingly, oblivious to hazard they create for others while delivering their children to the gate.

I couldn’t understand this either:
Friday Morning, 28th May, approx 8:30 ~ Motions Rd, opposite Western Springs car park entry.
The White arrow shows where people were stopping to drop off Primary School Children:
Parking badly, pulling out without indicating in an area clearly marked with a yellow dashed "No stopping line” opposite the zoo/western springs car park entry.
Less than 250 metres after this, by the Red arrow, I pass a traffic unit operating a speed camera.

One actual dangerous & illegal act being ignored, one potential dangerous & illegal act was being policed.
If you were speeding from Direction A you would have hit a pupil from School A BEFORE even seeing the speed camera.
If you were speeding from Direction B you would have hit a pupil from School B BEFORE seeing the speed camera.
In either case it’s too late to do anything other than count the human cost and collect the fines.

How does this help safety or is it just revenue?. I should have stopped and asked but didn't really think about how dumb this was till later in the day. I submitted this on 30/05/04 via the Police Website and so far have not had a reply other than an automatic email confirmation.
