I’d like to shake Carl Bass’ hand, or (and this is way out of character for me) hug him, for this tweet (below) soon after the first presidential campaign debate:

I also must say I respect Carl for leaving his Twitter feed unedited post election. I have been sad to see several US friends, companies and institutions changing their stance and even social media history post-election. I understand that may be driven by (justifiable) fear, protecting their own position and family, or maybe just a decision to reveal their true feelings. I understand that but must make my own position clear.
President Trump is the same man as Republican Nominee Trump. A racist, sexist, narcissistic, scientifically illiterate and religiously intolerant man* who deserves the same degree of respect regardless of what office he holds. None.
The other reason I’m sad not to be at AU 2016 is missing seeing many US friends, whatever their political position.
