As I write, according to the countdown on Shaan Hurley’s blog, it is a mere fifty six days and five hours until Autodesk University 2011, Las Vegas, begins. However another deadline is approaching rapidly if you are thinking of attending and haven’t registered yet. General Registration opened mid September but if you register by October 11th you can save up to us$500 on the 3 Day pass.
Although I love attending AU it seemed a remote possibility this year. However that changed last week with some assistance from Autodesk Public Relations, via the AutoCAD Blogger Council, in the form of a media pass.
I’m funding the travel, and all non-AU expenses, and found a deal from Air New Zealand which means I can spend a few days in Seattle and Vancouver on the way home for little more than the extra accommodation cost.
Although the weather probably won’t be great Seattle is of interest because of geek connections, aviation and scenic aspects. Vancouver, because its the where you get the flight back to New Zealand and another place I haven’t visited.
In in addition to the usual Seattle tourist stuff I’m already planning to check out the Boeing Factory (remember au2006 proved I’m an aircraft geek too). I also hope to meet Buzz “ActiveWords” Bruggeman again as owe him a dinner from after AU2005 Orlando. Although I haven’t researched Vancouver much yet (only found it was possible yesterday) everyone I know who has been there loved it.
So, to those attending AU I’ll see you there; arriving Sunday 27/11, departing Saturday 03/12. If you have any suggestions for things to see & do in Seattle or Vancouver (achievable in a couple of days) let me know!
AU 2011 Las Vegas runs November 29 – December 1, 2011 - http://au.autodesk.com/

I took a lot of photos at Autodesk University 2010 but for me this is the one which sums it up best. Where new technology and people meet.
