A reader emailed me about BIMStorm London which is happening in June (details in the extended post). BIMStorm aims to raise the awareness of BIM and how the AEC industry is, or should be, using collaborative tools for projects. Teams will compete, using BIM platform(s) of their choice, to create a master plan for a site in London. If you want to participate in, or watch, the BIMStorm events read on…

On 24 - 26th June 2008, the BIMStorm Build LONDON Live event will take place in conjunction with the London International Building Smart Conference at RIBA. BIMStorm Build London Live is a collaborative event where a number of teams from around the UK and the rest of the world will be given the task of redeveloping a site in London and delivering a BIM model within 48 hours. The various schemes will be judged by a panel and prizes will be given at a press conference on the last day.
Design and engineering teams from across the globe will be challenged to create a master plan for a site on the Greenwich Peninsula, London. This on-line collaborative event is at the cutting edge of BIM and follows on from other successful BimSTORMs in Rotterdam, San Diego, New Orleans, Boston and Los Angeles (www.onuma.com). A hypothetical brief will be given to the teams to create detailed designs for a mixed use sustainable scheme that incorporates the latest in green energy techniques whilst being as creative as possible. As a virtual event, teams will be free to use their imagination. Teams may use any collaborative or CAD tools such as Revit, ArchiCAD, NavisWorks and Synchro etc. and various degrees of content will be produced by the teams including:
- 3D model of scheme
- 4D model of scheme
- 5D model (cost calculations based on UK RICS data)
- Energy Analysis reports
- 3D model of Building Services
- A full set of 2D plans & elevations
- AVI's, animated gifs, photorealistic images
- FM & asset models
BIMStorm Build LONDON Live is at the sharp end of BIM. It's free to enter or watch online and we are actively seeking participants.
