Autodesk University 2004

I was about to Blog about this when I found Lee at Hyperpics has already done it. I have just started planning a trip to Autodesk University 2004 and to be honest its a little daunting. Getting there is a mere 11154 km (Auckland, San Francisco, McCarran) and deciding which of the hundreds of sessions to attend, actually which to miss, is a challenge. Easy Orbit in 3d DWF's

These key combintations greatly simplify orbit when viewing 3d Dwfs. This is covered in the DWF Viewer Help but took me a while to notice. Using your mouse, you can rotate the 3D Orbit view in the following ways: Freely Rotating the View When you move the cursor inside the viewing area, it changes to a small sphere encircled by two lines. If you click and drag, you can move freely around the objects. It works as if your cursor were grabbing a sphere surrounding the objects and dragging it around the target point. Mass Modelling in ADT

Chris has posted a great video demo of the mass modelling tools in ADT 2004/5 on his "Between the Walls" Blog. While massing has always been a part of ADT the interface and object improvements in ADT 2004/5 have made mass elements a powerful tool. 3d DWF is here

The new Autodesk DWF Viewer 5.0 is now available: Get if from www.autodesk.com/dwfviewer-download It includes the following new or improved features: 3D DWF Files - View, navigate and print 3D DWF files published from Autodesk Inventor 9. You can also pan, zoom, orbit, show and hide components, select wireframe and shaded views, navigate to standard views, navigate assembly structure, isolate components, and view component and mass properties. Auckland AutoCAD User Group Meeting 23/7/04

Thanks to Canon NZ for an interesting introduction to their printer/plotter, scanner and digital camera range. This included background on the technology in these products, some near future enhancements, and a demo of the w6200 wide format plotter. Of particular interest to me were the digital cameras and the quality seen when these were output to large print sizes.
