Phú Quốc to Cần Thơ | Day 7 Vietnam Cycle Tour
Boat for scale... Really!

The itinerary:

This morning we take a short early morning flight back to the mainland, arriving around 9.00am we cycle for the rest of the day on the very quiet Highway. The road follows the canal network, along which you will see the famous monkey bridges used by the villagers to get across the canals.

Clear the runway...

Noticed on touchdown, at smaller airports, there were security bikes patrolling to clear the runway of animals, or people?

Met by security bikes to clear the runway of animals, people?

Hanging between the power lines, in the middle of the view... a spider...

Locals love to ride.* I think it is appreciated we experience their country by being in it, not looking out from a bus.

Victoria Cần Thơ Resort

It was another of those 'I feel very underdressed in bike gear' arrivals. Home for the night was an elegant colonial era hotel on the banks of the Hau River.

Pool shark...

I don't often play pool—because I'm not at all good at it—but was talked into a game while we regrouped for dinner. I only remember this because 'at time to set off' there was three, or maybe four**, balls left to pot. It was my turn, and (with an audience) I cleared them. Something I've never done before or since...

Amendments

This post was written in 2023-25, so this section will document any updates since 2008. I had a blog back then but didn't write about travelling, and it was before I used other social media.

* I'm fairly sure this was friendly!

** Failing memory, but it was certainly more than two!

*** Where did we stay, dine? No photos or other memories of that night!
