Set out for the Waitakere Ranges but looked like rain up there so tried the new New Lynn Avondale Path and SH16 path to the city.
The new path has its issues, some ugly junctions and road crossings, but cycling to the CDB on path or quiet suburban roads from home is good is great. From town went along the waterfront then up through Parnell to the Auckland Domain and home.
A nice day for a ride, left the rain in the hills, sun on the Lightpath shared path
Home to City in about an hour
Took the new the New Lynn (1) - Avondale (2) Shared Path, Waterview Shared Path (3) to join the SH16 North- Western Cyclepath (4) to the city. The time was similar to an average peak hour commute for the same journey. Advantage of cycling, fitness aside, is that it will always be the same time. It gets quite busy on the SH16 path but I've never seen a tailback.
It was 0:59:10 cycling for the 22.35km to the CBD.
Avg Speed 22.6km/h, Max 56.3km/h to the CBD
It was 1:08:57 total trip time (includes lights etc), 777 calories burnt if you believe the tracker.
Victoria Park Market
No longer a Market, mixed use commercial/retail and nicely renovated. The scooters are at Vespa Auckland.
Waitemata Harbour Viaduct
Waitemata Harbour near the Viaduct
A quiet Viaduct view, not much happening post COVID & Winter.
Kids cycling mini-tour part of a kids cycle training/entertainment layout. Each tree is an Auckland landmark.
Where once were super yachts...
Auckland Domain
Auckland War Memorial Museum and view towards North Head, Rangitoto.
