I had to change motels today, but only had to pack a small overnight backpack so not a big deal to move. Found it good for overnight stays when driving; just the basics so could leave my main gear bag in the car.
The day wasn't great; not worth getting a bike out, dirty, cleaning again for a short ride. There are plenty of other things to do around Hanmer Springs, even though had decided to avoid the hot spring pools. They were operating but, due to COVID, you had to pre-book a timeslot so they could manage numbers, separation and sanitise between bookings.
Hanmer Springs Forest Amble
Walked the Forest Amble, a short walk near town in plantation forest which also has quite extensive mountain bike trails. Nice in itself, it's enhanced by some awesome sculptures encountered along the way. Only show some below, go yourself to find more.
Listening to this podcast while walking having consumed a plate of waffles, bacon, grilled banana, berries, and cream for breakfast. It was automatically put next up in my playlist... chance or AI?

When you discover the 'Food' pre-set on your phone camera is useful for nature photography too. Although, some fungus is food...
Conical Hill Walk
Ambling becomes walking when you scale Conical Hill.
Magnificent views over Hanmer Springs.
Planted forest but still attractive
Heading back down
View from my room for tonight at Tussock Peak Motor Lodge. More upmarket than the previous place, but priced accordingly, and very nice.
The Bravo faced its German competition when I stopped to get dinner. I had superb takeaway Thai food from Mr Yunan. Fresh, tasty, generous servings and highly recommended. Tomorrow it's off to Christchurch, abandon the Bravo, and fly home for about a week.
