I don’t like autos, especially in superminis, but Fiat are finally offering a two pedal Punto Grande for those that do.
It’s not a normal “torque converter auto” but rather has: “Dualogic - a sophisticated, clutchless, 5-speed sequential manual shift with a selectable, fully automatic mode” with the promise of smooth shifts thanks to “Fuzzy Logic” control.
Is there ever an automated manual launched without the promise of “quicker smoother shifts”? Owners seem to love this gearbox but I’d stick to a manual and the fun of fancy footwork.
Fiat Has Change In Attitude : Xtra Motoring
It's not too hot on the spelling, but Fiat reckons it has developed an automatic gearbox that's more economical than a manual with its new DuaLogic transmission…Dualogic has arrived - Fiat New Zealand
BETTER PERFORMANCE AND ECONOMY: IT HAS TO BE A PUNTO DUALOGIC!
“The DuaLogic gearbox, which is available on the Fiat Punto 1.4 as well as the 1.3 JTD, is technically described as a sequential manual gearbox, which means it has a conventional clutch and gearbox, so there is no power-sapping torque converter and hydraulic gears. Instead there is small, light actuator unit to operate the clutch and move the gears, plus a highly intelligent computer.”
