Monorail a big hit in Vegas, but here?

Often hear people say that Monorail would be one solution to adding capacity to existing corridors. "Just put a Monorail along the motorways..." but what would it cost?
This is a very simple calculation is based on Las Vegas new Monorail that cost approximately us$87 (NZ$134) million per mile. The major corridors in Auckland total about 60 Miles:
- West to City: 11 miles
- Airport to City: 12 miles
- Albany to City: 12 miles
- Howick to City: 12 miles
- Manukau to City: 13 miles
Ignoring real world complications like hills, access to the city, and getting across the harbours 60 Miles @ NZ$134 Million/Mile = NZ$8.04 billion.

I'm going to check out the Las Vegas Monorail when there for Autodesk AU later this year. I wonder if there is any chance of a grant from Transit NZ to subsidise the trip :)
