Mark Hadlow's GOMIL is a triumph

One man, one bike, one stage, spinning thought provoking humour

Mark Hadlow's GOMIL is a triumph

Just home from a wonderful performance of GOMIL, by Mark Hadlow. It's the sequel to his previous cycling related hit, MAMIL, but takes some of those characters, and new ones, into another generation of challenges and issues.

An amazing multi-character solo performance, just the physical aspects (spinning and leaping around the stage podium) must be a nightly workout for Mark. It tackles the challenges of aging, inspired by a real-life experience, and some heavy subjects without ever losing the humour.

Although based around cycling, it's not really about that and recommended for anyone, no matter how long since you last set foot on a pedal. It's worth seeing for Mark's portrayal of the satanic Pinarello character, bathed in red light, alone 😄

GOMIL - GRUMPY OLD MAN IN LYCRA by Gregory Coopers
The Lycra is back: GOMIL – the hilarious new sequel to MAMIL hits the road across New Zealand!

One of New Zealand’s biggest theatrical success stories is back in the saddle! Following the phenomenal popularity of MAMIL (Middle Aged Man in Lycra), which played to over 70,000 people across the country, comes its laugh-out-loud sequel: GOMIL – Grumpy Old Man in Lycra. And this time, it's going national.

From the comedic genius of writer and director Gregory Cooper (MAMIL, That Bloody Woman) and starring Kiwi acting royalty Mark Hadlow ONZM (King Kong, The Hobbit, SNAG), GOMIL is primed to bring a fresh wave of laughter, Lycra, and life’s mid-life absurdities to 14 cities throughout New Zealand in a major national tour kicking off this September.

After a critically acclaimed, sold-out debut season in ÅŒtautahi Christchurch, GOMIL is shifting gears and going full speed ahead across Aotearoa. Audiences who laughed (and winced) along with the unforgettable antics in MAMIL will now follow the journey of our favourite cyclist as he faces a new life stage: grumpier, greyer, and still clad in way too much Lycra.

Hadlow, one of the country’s most beloved performers, reprises his role with impeccable comic timing and emotional depth, bringing to life a story that’s not only hilarious, but also touching, timely, and unashamedly relatable.

Whether you're a weekend warrior, a reluctant spouse, or just someone who enjoys watching others sweat the small (and stretchy) stuff, GOMIL is a must-see. This show digs deep into the world of ageing men, fragile egos, friendship, family, and the undeniable need to keep moving—no matter how creaky your knees may be.

Get ready to laugh, reflect, and maybe even wince in recognition as GOMIL pedals its way across the country this spring. It’s more than a show—it’s a celebration of growing older (and slightly wider) with humour, heart, and a healthy dose of spandex.

Don’t miss the next chapter in this iconic Kiwi comedy saga. GOMIL is coming to a theatre near you—lycra, laughter and all.

After a sold-out debut in Christchurch, this comedy juggernaut tours 14 cities this Sept–Oct. Don't miss the laughs!
