March 31st means it is blog’iversary time. Fourteen years since that first tentative post!

New Zealand is a long way from everywhere and social media eliminates that gap. I really appreciate the connections blogging, and more recently Twitter & Facebook, have enabled.

While the other platforms have taken over much of the day to day activity I still prefer having the content I really value, in terms of wanting to retain, on my ‘own’ platform. Given recent events it is nice to know you could leave a social media platform and not ‘lose everything’.

It was also great to see many bloggie friends in person in Seattle and at Autodesk University on my travels last November. It looks like some more of that will be happening, a bit closer to home, in the near future but more on that when the details are confirmed.

Visits & Subscribers:

The weekly “blog beat” is still fairly constant, thanks to the back catalogue, but numbers are well down (-44% from last year) due to limited new content. Just as well this is a hobby!

Location:

NZ stays in sixth (to where it dropped from second in 2016) with the US well in the lead as usual.

Browser & Operating System:

It’s interesting to watch this over the years even if it doesn’t really mean much due to the small sample size. Chrome (on Windows) went up a little +3%. Surprised to see IE stays third with only -1% drop and no sign of Windows 10 Edge browser improving much (+1%).

Operating Systems saw Windows still on top, almost unchanged, with Android and iOS maintaining station. I suspect those Windows Phone visits are just my old Nokia 1520 secondary phone. Surprising to see a lone Blackberry visitor, was it Theresa May?

Of the Windows versions 7 still rules, although nearly 10% down on last year. Windows 10 is still rising, from 30% to 41%, as 8/8.1 disappear. Both XP and Vista linger, although well down, and someone is still on Windows 2000!
