MAMIL, Mark Hadlow's one-man show is a tour de force

MAMIL

It was great, as I'm one, to see Mark Hadlow in his one man 'tour de force' play: MAMIL (Middle Aged Men In Lycra) One Actor, Nine characters, two hours of non-stop brilliance. Simple staging, clever lighting, sound effects, and a couple of (live on stage) costume changes support the storyline which pivots around, but is not really about, the recreational cycling boom. Well it was nearly non-stop as, in one of the highlights, Mark briefly broke the fourth wall after he tripped over a line which required remembering a Hollywood actors name, 'what name?', then got it, and was off again. After the performance and, deserved, lengthy applause – as he thanked the audience, supporter, crew & sponsors – Mark said:

'After months of lockdown screen time, isn't it great we can have live theatre again.'We are, and it was, great live theatre.

It's on tomorrow (23/07/2020) and Friday (24/07/2020) at Skycity Theatre if you're in Auckland. Tickets at iTicket

This Scoop release is for a 2014 performance but has a good overview of the play and its background.
