Going nowhere, up Days | Time Out 2021-22 Nelson

Wet weather, regroup day!

Going nowhere, up Days | Time Out 2021-22 Nelson
Mostly Sunny with 90% rain...

Woke to a wet and windy day. I needed to stock up with food (for breakfasts, ride snacks and dinners) and see if anyone could help with yesterday's discovery, the gravel bike's loose rear hub bearings.

Thank you Village Cycles!

I called a few nearby bike shops; most were booked for days/weeks ahead but Village Cycles Richmond said they could take a look. Dropped the bike off but told them had another bike to ride, so to prioritise anything keeping other people from riding.

I didn't really need it for the rest of my Nelson rides, could even do without it in Golden Bay. Returning to Richmond would only add a few kilometres driving to my travels after Golden Bay.

Provisioning, on and off bike

I stocked up with groceries and fruit on the way back, one thing about all the biking is you get through the food!

I don't bother with techo sports supplements when riding. I favour gummy sugary sweets while riding, Moro/Snickers bars and biscuits (oat or similar) or fruit when stop, some juice (1/3) and a pinch of table salt in the water bottles. Not sure about the science but works for me.

Sports hydration, my cycling drink mix vindicated!
Loved this episode of Sliced Bread: Do drinks and powders with electrolytes help to hydrate you better? from BBC Radio 4. For this trip, because of COVID, I was favouring a decent outdoor table café lunch while riding and doing my own breakfast/dinner to avoid indoor dining.

A 'Days' hike!

After most of the day lost to 'admin', and a lazy start, I needed to get some air. As the forecast predicted, the persistent rain eased by early evening.

I walked to Tahunanui Beach and along SH6 (Rocks Rd) to a track I'd seen while cycling. Days Track goes from the foreshore up the Tahunanui hillside. There are plenty of steps to get up but the payoff of magnificent views.

I had my 'Antarctic' raincoat in case the rain returned but ended up carrying it because it was still warm. Followed the road back down getting takeaways, Fish & Chips from 'The Sands', to eat at the beach on the way home.

This 'couch' is well placed for a rest and the views.
