Giant Airbus A380 plane raises chance of medical emergencies
I wouldn’t think its a big deal but interesting to see this article in New Scientist which discusses one unexpected aspect of the new A380. The large number of passengers also increases the probability that there will be a medical emergency on a flight.
“The A380 ability to carry twice as many passengers will almost double the chances of a medical emergency on any given flight”
It’s size means that its restricted to airports that can handle large aircraft (as are 747’s) which may require consideration when planning route diversions. On the upside, the increased aircraft capacity may enable provision for medical services not possible on smaller aircraft.
