While Ford manufacturing muscle helped Jaguar the bizarre marketing and financial restrictions (in terms of product development not subsidising operating loss) show how Ford could have killed Ferrari. Fiat itself had a close escape from GM smothering and a commitment to developing good, Italian, product is paying dividends (literally).

Motor Trend speculate there may even have been a Ferrari Mustang. While Fiat have come close to that sort of brand bastardisation*, the Schumacher Stilo  or Lancia Thema 8.32, they’ve had the sense to let Ferrari be Ferrari.
