Ferrari's 2004 Formula 1 Masterpiece
An amazing insight into the best F1 car ever made
'Driver 61' have unprecedented access to tell the story of how, and why, Ferrari's 2004 car can be regarded as the best Formula One car ever made. It's not just the car, it was also the time: Regulations, a special driver, and a lack of constraints combined to enable a development programme that can't be replicated today.
In January 2004, at Ferrari's private test track at Fiorano, Michael Schumacher climbed out of a brand new F2004 after just a few laps. This car was about to win 15 out of 18 races and set lap records that would stand for over a decade.
Now, Ferrari gave me access to their Corse Clienti workshop - and I got to see the F2004 while they were rebuilding it, with all the parts laid out. I was shown around by Filippo Perrucci, who worked on this car when it was being raced and is now head of Ferrari's Corse Clienti Programme.
This is the story of the most dominant Ferrari ever built
