Just heard that comedian Dave Allen died, aged 68.

His TV shows were part of my childhood (not meant for kids but i was allowed to stay up for them) and much later I saw him perform in New Zealand at The Aotea Centre. It was a memorable performance; funny as expected but an unplanned event also showed what a professional he was.

It was fairly soon after the centre opened and at one stage the audio system just stopped. As soon as he realised the sound was gone he switched to an impromptu silent comedy performance until it was fixed. It took maybe 5 or 10 minutes to restore the system and didn’t seem to phase him at all.
