Data Roaming Rates: What doe$ it all mean?

I was rather careful with using roaming data at Autodesk University, thanks for the free wireless Autodesk, but some recent stories have featured Kiwi’s caught out by high rates. To be fair you are warned but it’s in techo terms that many don’t really grasp. Simon turns the rather meaningless cents/KB (or sometimes $/MB) quoted by providers into realistic terms.
