Clever Policing, Not

Driving to work last week I rounded a corner to find a Police checkpoint. Not certain but looked like a regular WOF/Rego check. It’s great they get dangerous cars off the road with these but this one was in a really stupid location.
The checkpoint was on West End Rd in the middle of a very short 160m long straight (yellow line).
Traffic approaching from the West came around a blind corner to find a backlog of cars slowing for the checkpoint, less than 80 m away.
Traffic from the city was backing up into Jervois Rd and an area already busy with traffic. It is the local school crossing (magenta line 200m from the checkpoint) and a busy drop-off area for parents whose children are unable to walk.
More annoying is they have previously had checkpoints 850m down West End Rd (yellow rectangle)where there is a plenty of space, visibility and a off street parking area to deal with offenders. Why create two traffic hazards to solve another?
