CAD’llusions & memories of #TAMOz

I was reminded of Dr Rob Morrison’s "Skeptical Illusions" presentation at TAMOz while working yesterday. He demonstrated how visual perception is the result of biological systems, experience, expectations, even culture. In short, what you “see” isn’t necessarily what you are looking at.

While adding areas to a model I saw (below) a plan view of 3D fittings being slightly “broken” where they transitioned to magenta space fill. Turn off the areas and they “heal” to become linear again. At first I thought it was a function of screen resolution and/or the graphics card but suspect it’s entirely visual as happened irrespective of zoom level and on the resulting print.

But I wonder, do you see the same?
