Air New Zealand will be a twin engine long-range when Joe Sutter's Jumbo, and aging 767’s, are retired to be replaced by a new 777 & 787 fleet. The first 747 replaced Air New Zealand’s first “widebody” aircraft, the DC-10, back in the early 80’s. The current fleet is later model 747–400’s.
