It was only about 400 metres, but I remember it as if I’d crossed a continent. I’ve since been lucky to cycle around much of New Zealand, parts of the USA, Asia, Argentina, Australia.
So many beautiful places, with wonderful people, but the first ride into the big wide world still ranks as a highlight.

Teach your child—that blond kid is me—to ride a bicycle and you will open their eyes to a world of experiences and a sport/recreation that can be with them for a lifetime.
